Musicians using the Beat to Beat Cancer

Official Merseyside & Lancashire Fundraising Committee

Hello – I’m Keith Hubbard and this is how I came to create Gig4Life.

In December 2019, after 15 years of fighting Prostate Cancer, I was finally given the all clear.

During those years I was administered to by many wonderful and dedicated people. Including the health professionals who treated and cared for me plus their support staff, who did such a fantastic job helping me cope with the challenging effects of the medications. None of the treatments I received would have been available (and I would definitely not be here now!) were it not for the ground breaking work of Cancer Research UK.

After having had radiotherapy, hormone treatments and taking part in a programme of cryosurgery, I vowed to give something back… so I entered the local Cancer Research UK 10k Race and managed to raise over £500 in sponsorships.

However, as a music professional experienced in live performance and the organising of concerts, it occurred to me that this was by far the best way of raising funds.

Assisted by some original members of the Ormskirk Young People’s Club I was able to raise a great deal of money with the Rockin’ at the YPC show at the Ormskirk Civic Hall.

It was the success of that first event in 2010, plus my guest appearance on the Stand Up To Cancer Telethon, that encouraged me to make the renamed Rockin’ at the Civic a biannual fundraiser.

With the help of the local Cancer Research UK representative, I formed the Merseyside Cancer Research UK Committee to launch a new initiative – Gig4Life – a series of fully ‘Live’ musical presentations to be held at various venues in the North West of England, with a view to expanding to venues nationwide. For further information please visit and Like our Facebook page at the icon below and follow your local press.

There is also a Just Giving page which accepts donations for Cancer Research UK. Link below.

I thank you all for your overwhelming generosity – thank you for caring.

Keith
